Honoring Katherine Johnson a Nod to Glenn

By Chris Ian —

If I were hanging out on aboard the International Space Station, I would be delighted to see the picture-perfect launch of the Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus capsule, called the S.S. Katherine Johnson. This is the 15th contracted cargo resupply mission for NASA to the ISS, which passed over the area just 10 minutes prior to liftoff! The 8,000-pound payload includes supplies for the crew, hardware and materials for science and research. The rocket lifted skyward from Pad-0A at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia, 59 years to the day – February 20, 1962 – when John Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earth.
